Taqueria La Paz was founded with a simple mission: to share the authentic flavors of Mexico with the Chicago community. Located at 5052 W Armitage Ave, we've been serving handmade tortillas and traditional dishes for over 15 years.
Our recipes have been passed down through generations, preserving the traditional cooking methods that make Mexican cuisine so special. From our signature huaraches to our Oaxacan-style mole, every dish is prepared with the same care and attention that has made us a neighborhood favorite.

Chicago, 1990
Where It All Started
Long before the restaurant on Armitage, we were part of the life of Maxwell Street Market — one of Chicago's most storied open-air bazaars. We started cooking there in 1990, drawing on family recipes rooted in central and southern Mexican tradition.
What we learned there — the flavors, the discipline, the relationship with our community — is what we brought with us when we opened our first restaurant in 2009 — and later moved to our current home on Armitage.
